To be rooted is perhaps the most important and least recognized need of the human soul. —Simone Weil

Member householders are people with disabilities who may or may not need paid support but must have non-resident support people who will be members too. These people can include friends, family or relatives.

In addition, members must be able to pay their rent & utilities and the monthly membership fee.

ACME Co-op is currently looking for three more fun-loving families to join our community-based living and learning cooperative, where your son or daughter would live in their own apartment with support. Contact Dar at (520)248-9576 or Val at (520) 870-7360 or use our website form to email us.

Membership Matching

Eligibility is determined in three steps.
  1. Initial meeting on 1st or 3rd Saturday or the 15th of the month by RSVP.
  2. Southern Arizona Family Services family profile completed.
  3. For 3 months we get to know each other through member get-togethers, home visiting, emailing, phone calls, etc.

Membership Decision

The Board of Directors decides on new members at monthly meetings. New members will be notified of an upcoming vacancy date. New members are given an initial 6 month renewable lease with review at the end of 6 months, and again after 12 months. The review is performed by Southern Arizona Family Services, or an agency of your choice.

Households

Households are made up of one or two people with disabilities. The persons' support team will arrange for paid and un-paid caregivers with an agency and with the Co-op.

Housing

We have 6 apartments: 5 for households and one for a clubhouse. Each apartment includes:

Household Monthly Costs

Co-op Members

General members are residents, roommates and non-resident support (paid and unpaid) people who attend monthly meetings. One general member associated with a household will become a board member for that household. (See Principles of Governance for more info).

Active Membership

Each household will participate in supporting the co-op. The level and type of participation will be determined. Ideas include planning meals (in the club house or out on the town) and activities. Active members are also encouraged to get to know everyone living at the Co-op, and to learn and practice the Eight Habits of the Heart: Nurturing, Dependability, Friendship, High Expectations, Courage, Brotherhood & Sisterhood, Hope, Responsibility.

ACME Co-op is a 501(c)(3) voting organization using co-operative principles.
